Not many can resist the adorable Donkey from the Shrek movies. But did you know that Shrek wasn't the first to hear a talking donkey? That privilege was given to Balaam. He was a prophet who told people what God said. He believed that he must obey God, no matter what.

One time, people from a country called Moab asked Balaam for help. God made it very clear that what they were asking wasn't right, so at first Balaam sent them away. But the Moabites kept offering bigger and better bribes. Balaam began to struggle to put into practice what he knew in theory. When he went wrong, God used his donkey to show him: 'Then the Lord opened the donkey's mouth, and she said to Balaam, "What have I done...to make you beat me...three times?" ...The angel of the Lord asked him, "Why have you beaten your donkey...? I have come here to oppose you because your path is a reckless one..." Balaam said, "I have sinned. ... if you are displeased, I will go back."' (Numbers 22:28-34 NIV)

Doing what you know is right can be hard at times. And when we make a mistake and don't correct it, we end up making another mistake. Ask God if there is something you need to put right today and go sort it out. God may not tell you through a donkey-but He will let you know.
