Fearless (1)
'Elijah was afraid and fled for his life...' 1 Kings 19:3 NIV

Read up on Elijah, and you'll discover he led an incredible life for God: He was a prophet, meaning God gave him knowledge of future events (1 Kings 17); he was given supernatural running strength that would have had Olympic gold medallists eating his dust (1 Kings 18:46); he was the first recorded person in the Bible to raise someone from the dead (1 Kings 17:22); he divided a river with his coat (2 Kings 2:8); he once braved odds of 450 to 1 challenging the prophets of Baal to prove that his God was more powerful than theirs-and of course he won (1 Kings 18:22-24).

These are just a few highlights in the life of Elijah. You'd think he'd be a fearless, confident, impressive guy 100% of the time. But truth is, even Elijah had times when he let fear rule. Once, when threatened by a queen, 'Elijah was afraid and fled for his life.'

Words can have a powerful effect on us. If we're not careful then, just like Elijah, we can become gripped with fear, thrown into depression, and feel totally intimidated and worthless.

Don't listen to the voice of fear; listen to the voice of God. He will make you fearless. 2 Timothy 1:7 NLT says, 'God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.'
