Jesus-Like (2) – On Offer Live like Jesus.

‘Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.’ 2 Peter 1:2 NIV

You’ve heard it. You probably aim to do it. Why, though? To show your friends what Christianity should look like? To make the world a better place? To please God? They’re all good reasons, and they all happen, in their own way, when our lives start to look more like that of Jesus. But God has a far more personal reason to ask us to imitate His Son. You see, the request for us to ‘live like Christ’ is an offer, not just a command. After He’s set you free from sin (and only after that), God offers a new way of life, filled with ‘grace and peace’. The fact of the matter is this: living that new, Jesus–style life is exactly what we were built for. So once we start allowing ourselves to act like God wants, we start to look like the person He designed us to be. That’s when that ‘grace and peace’ come into play. Making the decision to delve as deeply as you can into Jesus’ life, and putting what you learn into practice, won’t lead you any way other than towards God. And, the closer you get to God, the more you’re surrounded by His ‘grace and peace’. So, when He asks you to live like Jesus, what’s He’s saying is ‘come closer to Me, and life will start to feel as it should.’ And that is the ultimate offer of all time.
