The 'M' word

'…a man shall…be joined to his wife…' Genesis 2:24 NKJ

So it might still be a long way off, but don't pretend you don't spend time thinking about it! Getting hitched, finding 'The One', the 'M' word; marriage! A long time ago God said this about marriage: '…a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.' (Genesis 2:24 NKJ) This verse is read at almost every church wedding. The problem is, a lot of people standing up there at the front and taking those vows haven't really realised what they're promising. Marriage means that all your other relationships (except your relationship with God), now come after your relationship with your wife or husband. Marriage isn't about making space for someone else in your life; it's about re-building your life around them. Here's another thought. When you read the story of Adam and Eve in the book of Genesis, the point is that Eve was specially created because Adam really needed her; he couldn't do it on his own, he was incomplete. Think about this: unless you've found someone to whom you can say, 'I'm incomplete without you', you're probably not ready for marriage. Marriage is a huuuge decision, so don't rush into it through a fog of passion. Allow God to transform your heart into the kind of heart that can offer the sort of love that will help to make your partner whole.
